Layer Masking Issues

Since I updated to Photoshop 23.2.2, I can't seem to get a simple gradient as a layer mask to work as I previously have done. Anyone else running into this same thing? Or is it just me? Working on Mac OS Monterrey 12.2.1...

Can you share a file you're having trouble with or post some screenshots of your entire Photoshop interface? (Layers panel, document window, gradient tool selected and its tool options shown)
