Layer via ...anything ...not working

I have innumerable product images from which I need to select the subject, put on a new layer and combine with selected subjects from other layers.

Tonight I installed the latest version of PS and that function does not work at all. I've rebooted etc., to no avail. After making a selection on a layer, all of the right click options are greyed out.

Last week after a new update I had to get Support assistance and roll back to an earlier version because the latest didn't work. Not sure if this is the same lame update as the other was but I am losing track of the number of times Adobe releases faulty versions. This is time and money for thousands of photographers and I just don't understand why they aren't testing these releases.

Are others having this problem and if so ...is reverting to the last working version ...the only option?

    Are you trying to work exclusively in Photoshop or are you trying to go from Lightroom into Photoshop. Because the problem you are describing is exactly what people are seeing coming from Lightroom into Photoshop. If that's the case. Shut both programs down. Start up photoshop completely (not just to the splash screen). The launch Lightroom. Then try your image transfers to Photoshop. Should work fine.

    I rolled back to previous version of Photoshop and it works with that.i also called Adobe and reported it. Hopefully they will fix it sooner or later.
