Layer visually copying itself unless I turn it off and on, then repeats

After this latest update (v21.2) any object/image I place in a file visually duplicates itself wherever I place it in the workspace. If I need to move/erase/edit any part of the item I have the duplicate image that hides any work I do on the object until I turn off any random number of the other layers in the file (doesn't have to be the layer I'm working in however). The ghost is not on it's own separate layer, it's like a residual image of anything that's in the PSD file that goes away once I turn off a random number/all of the layers. Once I do this I have to repeat it for every step I take within the file. This is extremely frustrating and adding considerable time to any type of work I'm doing.

Any thoughts on how to eliminate this bug/issue?!?!
