Layers disappear in Photoshop

Good Day;

When I try to open another image as a separate layer, all my layers in the layer panel disappear from view. Selecting all layers or find layers does not help. Frustrated!

If you use File open, Photoshop will start another document. Intead, use File > Place Embedded to add another image as a layer within an existing document.
