When I make a selection then click on hue/saturation adjustment, the hue saturation level appears but my selection is lost - not on the new layer. This used to work.

How can I get that feature of creating a section and having it carry over to a new adjustment layer.

As mentioned by BarbBinder, the active selection becomes a mask on the adjustment layer. To activate the selection again, simply Cmd-click (Apple) or Cntrl-click (Windows) on the mask icon (not the adjustment layer icon) and you will get the marching ants back.

Are you making an active selection before you add the hue/saturation adjustment layer? You have to do it in that order.

Yes, I do make the selection first. I just tried it again: making the selection, creating a new H/S layer, and yep - my selection was there. Don't know what was happening wrong yesterday but thank you for your help.
