Legacy compositing gone in v22 - Layer visibility problem

Trying to create a document with multiple text layers. Many issues.

1. If I manually try to move one, or more, layers the layer becomes invisible. It's still there in the layer stack, it's just not visible. The eye is still turned on. When this happened in the past, turning on Use Legacy Compositing in Preferences>Performance seemed to fix the issue. In v22, that checkbox is gone. Anyone know of a workaround?

2. If I try to align all the layers to the centre of the document (Layer>Align>Align Horizontal Centers), the text layers will align properly; however, they are not aligned properly with the centre of the base layer. The base layer, in this case, is transparent. It needs to remain transparent. If the base layer is filled, the layers will align properly. I can fill the base layer with an Opacity of 1, that's a kludge.

3. In the past, if I manually moved a layer, alignments guides would pop up when, for example, three layers were equally spaced, or when a layer was aligned with the horizontal/vertical centre of the document. Those guides don't seem to be popping up in the latest version, or at least very intermittently and definitely not for equidistant spacing. Anyone else have this problem and what's the workaround?

Thanks
