Legitimate version of Photoshop, raw file formats

I am thinking of going for Photoshop CS5 or CS6 rather than paying a monthly subscription of $10. But I want a legitimate copy of the software with a license. Facing all the pirated software sales on Ebay and other sites, what do I need to look for to be sure I get legitimate software that works?

There aren't many functions added after CS6, some camera shake reduction added later might interest me although I doubt a little that it would create acceptable results. Lots of cloud-integration features were added in which I am not interested. But there is one thing that concerns me: The newest version of Camer Raw supported by CS6 is 9.1.1 which supports my Nikon D750, but the Nikon D850 would already require 9.12.1, not to mention Z7 and Z6 raw file formats. Would there be an alternative way to get an old Photoshop read newer raw file formats?

Thanks for your help!

The short answer is, you can't. Any CS6 version you're offered now is 100% certain to be counterfeit. Don't even think about it.

As for raw file support the question is moot. If you already had a legitimate CS6 license you could use the DNG converter.

Newer cameras won’t work (raw) with CS6!  If you invest in a new camera you need to invest in new software too.

I would think the DNG Converter could create DNG files fronr you RAW file thar CS6 AR 9.1.1 could open in CS6.

    Hi

Here is the link for FAQs for Adobe Genuine Software: Adobe Genuine software FAQ

You are wise to want a legitimate copy, but as others have said, CS5 and CS6 are not being sold by Adobe, so you are risking malware and non-functioning software with the pirated versions that you know to avoid.

In addition, CS5 and CS5 lack support for newer camera models and for newer operating systems. You may buy something that simply does not work. What OS do you have?

Here is a list of the features in the newer versions, put together by James Wamser.

IMHO, $10 per month (based on an annual subscription) really isn’t much when you think of what you might pay for a beer or glass of wine or a movie.

Also in the past if you used Photoshop perpetual versions  ever two years or so you would purchase an upgrade to update your perpetual Photoshop version to the newest Perpetual  version particularly if you processed RAW file just to get the latest ACR.  So if I look at the $10 Plan cost it has actually lowered the cost of Photoshop for me.  The only down side is Adobe releases too many bugs so you need to change Creative cloud Desktop Application default operation from automatically installing updates for self preservation.  Review this forum before installing updates learn what problem you can expect in the latest version and how to work around them before installing the new problems.  Also Update toe new OS version can be troublesome.  I use windows I have not upgraded the build 1903.  Yesterday I read Microsoft has now fix a problem in 1903 that was causing many to have problems in Photoshop.  I have read about Mac OS version updates and Problems in Photoshop.

Can you give a link to that JJ? I also haven't updated to 1903 yet but am interested.

Legitimate CS6 license may be able to be transferred from users that have Legitimate CS6 license through Adobe to you. I know I do not want to transfer mine. Perpetual CS6 its my exit plan.  I can stop using Create Cloud Versions of Photoshop and fallback onto Perpetual  version Photoshop.  I even have CS3 install today.

If you find someone willing to transfer their licence to you  here is a link you need for the transferal.

    Transfer an Adobe product license

Find someone with wings protruding from their backs.

    License transfer policy

If you sell or give your Adobe software to an individual or business, you can transfer the license accordingly. Transferring the license allows the new owner to register the software in their name.Important: Educational versions of Adobe-branded products are not eligible for a transfer of license. You can, however, transfer educational versions of Macromedia-branded products to a new owner.
    • If you transfer a license for a product suite, then the license applies to the entire suite of products. Individual products within a product suite are not eligible for a transfer of license.
    • The transfer of a license includes all versions of that product. If you sell or donate your registered copy of an Adobe product license, then you transfer your rights to all versions of that license as well.
    • Support contracts that are attached to a license do not transfer to the new licensee. Support contracts are legally nontransferable as specified in the terms and conditions of the contract.
    • Except in Germany, Adobe does not permit transfers for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) versions of software.

    Requirements to transfer a license

    • Transfer an Adobe product license Both the license transferor (current owner) and the recipient (new owner) must complete a Transfer of License form. Both forms must be returned to Adobe before the license can be transferred.
    • To transfer the license, the product serial number must be registered in the Adobe profile of the transferor.
    • You must qualify under the Transfer of License policy.

    License transfer process

Note: Be sure to get a case number before beginning the transfer process, to avoid delays processing your Transfer of License form. Contact us to obtain a case number.

    • Click the Get file button below and save the Transfer of License form to your computer.

      DOWNLOAD

    • Open the form in Adobe Reader or Acrobat and follow the instructions on the form. Be sure to complete all fields.

    • Write your case number or customer number, or both, on the form.

    • Scan the completed form and save it to your computer. To submit this form, follow the next steps.

    • In the Overview tab, under Helpful resources, click Support history.

    • In the Support history page, view the cases listed under Support cases.

      View your cases

    • Click the case number that you had earlier received from Adobe.

      Click case number

    • Click Add files, and then attach the completed form that you saved in step 5.

      Click Add files

    • Enter a message in the Leave a message box.

    • Click Submit.

After Adobe receives the completed Transfer of License form from both parties, Adobe registers the software to the new owner. Registration ensures that Adobe recognizes the new owner as the legal licensee who can receive customer service and support.

Once both parties have submitted a Transfer of License form, allow three to four weeks for Adobe to process your license transfer request.

No software seller has legitimate copies, no matter how convincing their talk of OEM or other claims, their Adobe logos, their efficiency or their five star reviews; no matter whether the price is temptingly low or reassuringly high. This does not exist.

Bear in mind when balancing $10 per month is that Photoshop CS6 was $700 - over six years' subscription.

Also, it is sure to stop working soon on updated Mac and Windows systems - change from Apple and Microsoft is getting faster and faster.
