Question

Levels or Curves (or any) Adjustment with Mask

I swear, I used to be able to do this before I updated my iOS, but is there is a way to create a Levels (or any adjustment) layer that already has a mask with it?  And do it with a Shortcut?  Right now, if I hit Command + M, I first get a New Layer pop up menu and then it will put a Levels adjustment layer with no mask.  I would really like to just type Command + M and have it skip the New Layer pop up menu and then do a Levels adjustment with a white mask already there.

Thanks!!

Just to check what you want to ask in this part of question:

Levels (or any adjustment) layer that already has a mask with it?

If you do not have mask attached when creating new adjustment layer then display Window > Adjustment panel. Click on Adjustments panel menu (hamburger icon in the top right corner) and click on Add Mask by Default to appear check-mark.

Ah yes!!  That seemed to fix it!  Now is there any way to avoid that New Layer pop-menu before it adds the adjustment layer?

If you click on Curves in Adjustments panel it will create Curves without any pop-up dialog. Is that solution for you?

The problem is that the Command + M shortcut doesn't create an adjustment layer. It applies the Image > Adjustments > Curves command directly and destructively to layer pixels, so there is no adjustment layer to add the mask to.

What you want to do is choose Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and reassign Command + M to this command: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves. That command does apply Curves as an adjustment layer with a default mask.

That's so weird.  I just cannot seem to get it to work.  I can't seem to get a mask to show up with any adjustment layers from the Layer > New Adjustment Layer > XXX shortcuts.  Or even if I just go through the drop-down menus, it still just won't add a mask.
