Question

limit to how many layers AI can rename

Is there a limit to how many layers AI can rename at once in Photoshop Web Beta? I’ve been testing the new AI layer‑naming feature and it works great, but I’m wondering whether there’s any upper limit when renaming a large number of layers in one go.

    @Piotr Gardecki

    I haven’t seen a limit for Photoshop Web Beta. An easy way to test is too create a bunch of layers (try 1000) and try renaming them.

    Since you are using Beta, you might ask on the Photoshop Beta forum. Here’s the link:

    Oh, good catch — it is the Beta, my mistake. I’ll take a closer look there.

    And yeah, 1,000 layers will be a real stress test. I’m definitely going to try it and see if the AI can handle that many in one go. Should be fun to push it a bit and find out how far it goes.

    “ tried renaming about 700 layers, but it didn’t work — the process didn’t start and Photoshop only returned an error.

    I doubt it - seems to just go one at a time in a queue until they are all done. I’ve used a similar feature in Figma, where elements processed in a batch with one single update for everything, and it returns an error if you select too many items. Doesn’t seem to be happening here with even a 100+ layers.

    I just imported a batch of photos as layers, and it really does work — all 100 images were successfully renamed. What I’m really looking forward to next is grouping. Once that lands, we’re all going to have beautifully organized layer in Photoshop.
