Linked EPS files updating incorrectly

Photoshop Version: 24.1.1
Platform: Mac 13.2

How to replicate issue:

1. Place linked EPS file into a layer group (eg 'Group 1')
2. Duplicate and rename layer group (eg, 'Group 2')
3. In Group 2, select the EPS file and relink to different eps file.
4. The EPS file in Group 1 will update, also.

The expected behavior is that only the selected EPS would update, not all instances of that EPS in the entire document.

That's because it's a Linked smart object (note the link icon on the layer). You can still convert it to an Embedded smart object.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer "Linked Files Are Smart Objects." I don't know if that's accurate. When the layer is a linked EPS file, the 'Convert To Smart Object' is still an option in the layers menu. Also, the method of selecting "Layer > Smart Objects > New Smart Object Via Copy" doesn't work, as that menu option is greyed out when the layer contents are a linked EPS file.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer I see your method for Smart Object layers, I'll need to experiment with linked files to see if that does it.

Say: A mockup of a product with different logos, each logo on it's own layer. The layers were duplicated to preserve a warp or transparency setting. Relink the logo file on a single layer, and it relinks on all of them? Is there a way to sidestaep this behavior and preserve layer-specific links?

You'll need use the following method to create a COPY of the smart object breaking the link between the two:

In the Layers panel, select a Smart Object layer, and do one of the following:
- To create a duplicate Smart Object that is linked to the original, choose Layer > New > Layer Via Copy, or drag the Smart Object layer to the Create A New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Edits you make to the original affect the copy and vice versa.
- To create a duplicate Smart Object that isn't linked to the original, choose Layer > Smart Objects > New Smart Object Via Copy. Edits you make to the original don't affect the copy.
A new Smart Object appears in the Layers panel with the same name as the original and "copy" as a suffix.

Hi @default95bnky0uqy77 This is expected behavior when duplicating Smart Objects.

You updated the source file which is linked to both layers.
