Loading to PS from LR

When trying to load a photo into PS via 'Edit In' the box is greyed but I can load directly into PS from Windows Explorer. I Tried 'locate folder' but got message 'folder is already in LR, do you want to combine folders', if I click yes it just duplicates files into another folder but I still can't edit in PS

Edit in Photoshop wiil be greyed out if

  • you are working with a smart preview
  • the image is on a disk that is not connected (image will be marked as missing, exclamation mark on the thumbnail)
  • the image is missing because the drive letter for the disk has changed
  • the image is missing for some other reason (renamed, moved or deleted outside of LrC)

    I can't see any 'Edit' in preferences

    Have you checked in Lightroom Preferences that Edit in is pointing to the correct version of Photoshop? 

    Often it is easier to open Photoshop first, then when you use Edit in from Lightroom you are asked whether you want to use the already open version.
