lost the ability to save

I have been editing photos in photoshop (when i dont have many to edit)

 

usually edit it then press command and S to save... it used to just save it over the original file.... now it makes me save as..... 

anyone know how i can get it back to just saving?

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible? 

What is the file’s file format?

What file format?

 

Have you added something to the current document that isn't supported by the file format that you are saving to (bit depth > 8 bpc, layers, channels etc.)?

 

Do you have legacy save as set in your file handling preferences?

Either change your Preferences for File Handling with the directions from Stephen or use Save a Copy. 

 

Also, if you are editing jpegs and resaving them, please note that every time you do, the image degrades and there is no way to restore it. JPEGs are lossy.
