Lost the ability to use gradient fills in quick mask with last photoshop upgrade.

Currently using Photoshop 21.2.9 on a Mac running OS 10.13.6.

When I loaded the photoshop update yesterday, I lost the ability to use gradient fills in quick maks mode. This is something I use EVERY DAY.  I use them to lighten once side of an image without affecting the other side and without leaving a hard line. What do I need to do to be able to create gradient masks now?

I figured out the problem. In the gradient fill settings, the "mode" was set to something other than "normal." I don't remember what it was set to, possibly Dissolve, but when I set it back to Normal it started working again.

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
