Question

Mac made PSD file is running extremely slow on WIN 10

I am using WIN 10 while my colleague uses MAC,

We do almost the same kind of job, same dimension & dpi, with the similar layout style.

Her MAC made PS files are super large, always exceeding 2GB, with "not so complicated" layout.

I tried examine her files and even after deleting many useless layers, the files are still huge in size (and they don't have much smart objects).

While me and other colleagues always result in less than 700mb in file size. (same dimension & dpi, same layout style)

The main problem is, sometimes we have to use one another's file as the source of other job.

And whenever I open her MAC made PS file on my WIN 10, the software runs extremely slow and lag in every action.

Even I copy her layers to a new created document, every move on the layers take around 5 sec to respond.

And strangely this only happens to Mac made files on WIN.

When she uses my WIN made PS files on her MAC, everything works fine and normal.

Is it the MAC/WIN compatibility thing?

Is there any way to solve this?

Had been quite annoyed with the time wasted everytime I use her files.

There isn't supposed to be any "compatibility thing". The PSD file format doesn't care which platform it's on.

The only variable I can think of is that some properties in the file make extensive use of GPU-resident functions. In that case a buggy video driver could affect performance.

Ask her to send you a screenshot of her File handing settings in Preferences. That way you can spot differences and come to an agreement.

There should be no problems opening a PSD created on either platform.

Look at PSD Compression and Compatibility. Always add the extension.

These are recommended:

Hi gener7, thanks for the suggestion.

I had examined the settings in Preference of both our files,

the settings are all the same. (all default settings)

They got no difference..

So we are now still working on the problem with the IT department

but thanks anyway.

That's great if you have on site technical help. I hope they can figure what's wrong.

In fact, if you find out, let us know. We may be able to help someone else.
