Question

Making an action, why is flatten layers not available?

19,1 iMac, Monterey 12.5.1, Photoshop 23.5 -

I am trying to create an action to copy a PNG file, and save as a JPG within the same folder. Then do batch convert:

1.   I flatten a png to save as jpg. Add a blank layer. Why does Batch Convert keep saying "Flatten is not available"

2.   Why is EXPORT as JPG not available in Batch Conversions.

JPEGs don't support layers and are flattened by default. Adding a blank layer followed by flattening are two steps you can skip.

Despite Export As being released a long time ago, it has not yet been made compatible with Actions or Scripts.

You can record Save As a Copy or Export Save for Web (Legacy).

I don't undewrstand why, but it worked this morning. The action I made this morning batch converted to jpg then closed without saving. Sorry for the alert about nothing. I am perplexed. I did the same thing I did last night and it worked. Appreciate the advice about Exporting. I can't remember doing anything different last night. Wierd. The procedure was using the overhead commands (no key board short-cuts). 1. Open a png. 2. Add a blank layer. 3. Flatten layers. 4 Save As jpg. Close without saving.🤷🏻‍♂

You computer is foxtrotting with you. It's the only explanation.  🙂

(In all seriousness, technology is as faulty as the humans that make them. You could have perfection one day and then a hiccup in another.)

Can you post a screen shot? Is the png file one layer? Perhaps the layer is already flattened, so PS throws the error?

Can you capture screenshot when error message appear on screen? Ensure that Layers panel is also expanded and visible.

Error message means that command can not be executed. Every command has some requirements to be executed, when working inside Photoshop menu item is greyed out if command is not available, when playing action it is possible to include step whoich is not executable at that time when step is on list for execution.
