Making Straight Lines with the Patch Tool or Lasso Tool using Shift

When using the patch tool or a lasso tool, it is not working to make a straight line using the shift key, I reset my preferences and it still isn't working. Are there any updates on why this won't work correctly? I do not have a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, so that is not my issue. I have reset preferences and that did not fix it. I have a computer lab with 19 computers and it will not work correctly for any student or myself. We recently did the 2025 update to all Adobe products.

If someone knows how to fix this, can you give me instructions on how you did this to make straight lines. This feature used to work, but now it will not.

I got it to work for the patch tool. I will see if it works on my student computers in a bit. I might have to reset their accounts.

Using Alt does work for the polygonal lasso tool, but not the regular lasso, patch tool, or the brush, we also have previously tried a lot of different combinations and nothing works. This used to work with all the tools and now it doesn't. The only thing that will make straight lines is the polygonal lasso tool and you can use alt to free-hand with that one.

We will just have to use the polygonal lasso tool, unless someone knows how to fix this bug. Thanks for your help.

Using the Alt key will toggle between straight and freehand selections with both the Lasso and Polygonal lasso tools. I can't test to see if the Alt key will also give you straight lines with the Patch tool because I am out of my office right now, but you might give it a try. I'll test when I return.

Yes, we know that works, but I want a solution on how to use the patch tool to make straight lines, this feature used to work correctly. Thank you for your suggestion.

Try this: use the Polygonal Lasso tool to make the selection with straight lines. After making your selection, switch to the Patch tool and proceed.

Both the Lasso tool and the Patch tool make free hand selections by default.
