Many PS problems: Can't save workspaces or preferences, canvas flickering, mask glitching

Hi, so I have been coping with the same issues with various photoshop versions across multiple different types of MacBook Pros for years, and my work IT team can not work it out.

So the first issue is masks glitching out, hard to explain so have attached a vid of it. Very randomly, masks will suddenly get some glitch effect... Moving the mouse over the canvas makes it worse. The only way to get rid of the glitch and get the original mask back is clicking at various places in the mask with the brush...

Next is not being able to save workspaces... I have full read and write permissions on all apps on the computer, so that's not the reason... No idea about this one really...

Lastly the image canvas, and only the canvas, will flicker like mad. It's not the usual canvas flickering I have seen in videos online where there is no image but flicks back and forth between black and white. For me, the image still appears but flashes/flickers extremely fast when scrolling/panning/zooming, interacting with adjustment layers., etc... Another problem I have with the canvas, is that sometimes the canvas will disappear all open images. They will still be open and can interact with layers etc, but there is no canvas no image (this isn’t the window closing, but just the canvas). There are some other random problems such as, when having multiple images open, some will appear inside the canvas of others...

I am currently using PS version 25.5.1 on a MacBook Pro M2 Pro 2023, 16GB ram, macOS Ventura 13.6.6 (latest macOS my work will allow). However I have experieced all of these issues on my previous work laptops 2016/2018/2020 MacBook Pros (don't have the specs), and ALL previous versions of Photoshop... I have not had these issues on any of my personal Macs though... However, none of my colleagues have had any of these issues with their computers (which are the same as mine). Nor can I find any evidence of these issues anywhere online....

Some things I've tried to resolve the issues but to no avail:

PRAM/SMC resets

Formatted the entire computer to factory settings and reinstalled CC/PS

Tried turning off/on in preferences the native canvas and graphics processor

(The GPU works absoultely fine with all other CC apps, where I have no visuals issues)

Please let me what other information I should provide.

Thank you!

L

@Leo5F93 thats definitely a GPU issue. Go to Photoshop Settings/Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas" and relaunch PS. If that does not help, go back to Settings/Performance and disable "Multithreaded Compositing".

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
