Match Color - could not complete your request because of a program error.

When i go to Match Color window and try to select a document from which to select a layer i get an error popup "could not complete your request because of a program error" and nothing works. I can't use the Match Color function. Freshly installed windows system and photoshop 2020. What do i do? Please help.

I don't know if the devs read this but latest versions of PS are full of this error. I experience them frequently on 3 different machines, all in different scenarios. Get your sheet together swearwords

What are the images you want to match? (Please post screenshots at least.)

In my opinion destructive Adjustments like Match Color are best avoided, would using nondestructive Adjustment Layers be an option?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
