HEllo, please give the Photoshop version number found in help/system info.

Also, please describe how it is not working correctly: post an image/a video of the issue or describe exactly how it is incorrect.

DO check the blending mode and color of the brush used.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm running on Photoshop 23.2.2 (update yesterday, but problem was existing with 23.2.1 already!), Monterey latest Version ..., 12.3 !  If I'm using a correction like gradient (on tiff or pds file) with a linked mask and the mask is fully black, it is possible to use the brush at 1% flew (in German "Fluss",) to paint WHITE into the black mask (it works!)   THEN pressing X on the keyboard to change from white to black and painting black into the same mask is not working at all ....

cheers

Hello, did you check the blend mode (Überblendmodi) of the brush? make sure you are using normal and NOT aufhellen, or negativ multiplizieren? It is well the brush tool, and not the dodge tool?
