Question

Metadata

I clicked File->File Info... and typed in information about the picture. Then I copied the picture to another location and checked the information. None of the information was there. How do I copy a file and retain the metadata?

Thanks,

Hi Doug,

It wasn't a camera raw file. It was a file from a photo I had scanned and I did a simple copy in Explorer. However, I think you gave me the answer in that Photoshop stores the metadata in the XMP side car files rather than embedded in the photo file itself. I didn't know that and didn't copy any file other than the photo file. What are the conventions/defaults for the name and location of the XMP side car files?

Thanks

What kind of file, and how did you copy it? Photoshop doesn't write metadata back to camera raw files. It uses its own database or XMP side car files. If you're using side car files you have to copy them as well.
