Can you try "Save as Copy" instead of "Save as" and tell us if that works? Also, what format are you trying to save it to when you use Save As?

If I got that spinning wheel, I would reset preferences, but let's look at a few other things first.

You are right. Totally my mistake - hence I tried to delete my post but there is no function which lets me do that.

I still cannot SAVE AS, so I am having to make copies from each desired history state which I want to save. This is quite confusing, and that's what led me to not notice that the current state was in fact saved. 

SAVE AS not working is driving me crazy. I never had this problem with CS3 in many years.

In 5 months of using CC, this has happened four times now. I do wonder why CC is so buggy, but CS3 was much smoother and hassle-free...

This is simply terrible. Fourth time this has happened since I started using CC. Awful, and extremely frustrating.

I cannot SAVE AS either - I just get the spinning coloured wheel and then it disappears.

The most common reason for Save to be grayed out is that your file is already saved. To check for us, can you open your History panel (Window menu) and share a screenshot of your history?
