Minibridge Error - Waiting for Bridge CS6

Hi,

Is there a permanant fix for Minibridge not working in PS CS6? I now continually get the message 'Waiting for Bridge CS6...". I am able  run full Bridge, and I still get the same message whether full Bridge is running or not.

I had this problem recently and found a fix involving deleteing the Switchboard folder which worked for a while but the error has returned and repeating the fix no longer works.

Thanks,

Mark

Have you followed the steps here yet?:

Error: Waiting for Bridge CS5 | Mini Bridge panel | InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop | CS5

Don't worry about the version numbers listed, it all works the same.

This is the second time this has happened to me. From reading this thread and I'm using windows 7 I did a control alt delete. Started task manager. Went to processes and ended switchboard. Make sure bridge is closed first. The I reopened bridge and mini bridge was back to normal in Photoshop CS6 .

Brett. It's nice that the solution to fixing the Minibridge Error in Photoshop was just the removal of the Minibridge extension from Photoshop. But: 1) It didn't solve the problem of Minibridge not working, it just eliminated an extension that many users found valuable. 2) It hasn't fixed the problem with the Minibridge interface in Indesign. "Waiting for Bridge" still occurs way to often plus the other problems you and I had discussed (inverted alpha listing or the alpha listing starting "wxyzabcd". still occurs.

When will Adobe fix what they broke? Minibridge was a very good extension at one time.

JG, it seems you didn't read the article. Mini-Bridge wasn't removed to solve any problems. Mini-Bridge is built on and depends upon Flash technology. In the 2014 release of Photoshop, that Flash technology has been removed, thus Mini-Bridge, and a number of other extensions, will not work at all. This is completely unrelated to the issue encountered by folks here. It is not a "fix". Extensions that were based on Flash will have to be re-written in HTML to have continued life in Photoshop. I'm not aware of what the development of Mini-Bridge is (it's an independent product, as Mini-Bridge is shared with several other Adobe products).

Also, the problem doesn't seem to be the Mini-Bridge extension itself. Basically, Mini-Bridge has two dependencies: SwitchBoard and Bridge. If either is encountering problems, then Mini-Bridge will simply report that it is waiting for them. If Bridge is operating as a stand-alone, then it leaves SwitchBoard as where the problem is occurring. SwitchBoard is simply a network protocol that connects Mini-Bridge to Bridge. It is the pipeline for the information to flow from one to the other. It seems that everyone on this thread has been experiencing a slightly different issue with SwitchBoard, from not launching at all, to launching when it isn't supposed to, to having corrupted preferences (that need to be recreated). It is also possible that the communication that it tries to support can be blocked by security software. There are as many possible issues with SwitchBoard running correctly as any other application. There is no one single solution that will solve things for everyone, even though the end result is the same behavior.

Brett, looks like since updating to CC 2014 I'm having the same issue again. For any future updates is this going to get fixed or will i have to do this each time?

Brett, curious as to how I'm getting an unresponsive switchboard again after the 2014 updates?  If that pipeline is no longer needed for communicating with mini-bridge... Thank you for all your feedback and communication, much appreciated.

All the suggestions here and in the Adobe tech article on this did not help me, but a combination of one of their suggestions and something read elsewhere led me to this solution which worked on my Mac running Lion and CS5.5. I couldn't get Mini Bridge to work in InDesign. I trashed the SwitchBoard folder in ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe as directed by Adobe. Then I launched the full Bridge Application. With that open, I went to InDesign and launched MiniBridge and it worked fine. To test that the issue was resolved. I closed out of both applications and only opened InDesign and was able to launch Mini Bridge just fine. Might be worth a shot in CS6 also. Good luck!

Just started having the problem after I loaded OSX Maverick. Would have tried all the suggestions but there is not a SwitchBoard folder in Library/Preference/Adobe.

This problem is driving me nuts because it is intermittent. No problem opening some files but then the next folder I click on, it just sits there waiting for bridge.

I am running the CC suite of software (mainly Indesign, Photoshop & Illustrator) and I depend heavily on Mini Bridge because it makes my workflow smoother and faster.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure about Mavericks, but are you looking in Library/Preferences/Adobe (at the main level of your hard drive) or your user account/Library/Preferences/Adobe? I believe Mavericks is the same as Lion in that your user Library is hidden from view. To see it, press the Option key as you select the Go menu in the Finder and Library will show up in the list. This is where the Switchboard file was on my Mac.

I simply exited from all CS6 apps, renamed switchboard.xml to switchboard.xmx and restarted Photoshop CS6.  Immedately fixed the issue.

    For Win7 users it's in c:\Users/%username%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\SwitchBoard.

    Hi Brett,

Thanks for the reply. This article was the one I used before where deleteing the SWitchboard folder had worked temporarily. I have just sucessfully tried Solution 4 - deleteing the cryto folder - and mini bridge is working again!

    Thanks very much,

    Mark
