Minor adjustment to an old plugin

How difficult would it be on an old 32 bit plugin that requires a mouse press to "enter" -to rework it so that it accepts the keyboard "enter".  I am a professional photographer and the plugin in question is IMO the best highlight/shadows/mild colour cast corrector ever written - the developer has updated the plugin to a new version + 64 bit and IMO ruined it. So this plugin keeps me on 32 bit PS as well.  I am sometimes processing 6-8000 pictures at a time using autoloader and actions.  I would have no problem paying someone to do it if it is possible.  It is an .8bf plugin written probably early 2000.

Do you have the source code (original program) of the plug-in and the rights to modify it? If not, it is a non starter (technically and legally).
