Missing library for Photoshop CS6 on Mojave

Hello! Please do not reply with any variant of "CS6 is too old, you need to upgrade to use the latest OS". I work in software, so I know plenty about why old software may not work on newer OSes. I promise, I really do.

That said, some people have had success running Photoshop CS6 on Mac OS 10.14 Mojave. I've done all the suggested things here: Mac mojave update photoshop CS6 not opening

But I'm pretty sure none of that is applicable to the particular error I'm getting. Photoshop fails to open entirely and produces this dialog:

When sending a bug report, the information below is available. It looks like a dynamic library within the Photoshop app package is missing. Googling reveals no one else posting this specific problem. Has anyone seen this? I suspect it could be fixed by reinstalling, but I thought I'd ask first before I bothered digging up my DVD and the drive to read it (can't remember the last time I used either, I know they're around here somewhere...)

These seem to be the crucial lines:

  1. Termination Reason:
  2. DYLD, [0x1] Library missing

Dyld Error Message:

  Library not loaded: @executable_path/../Frameworks/WRServices.framework/Versions/A/WRServices

  Referenced from: /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Photoshop CS6

  Reason: image not found

Thanks!

I found the problem. This error is due to Photoshop being on a case-sensitive filesystem. The dylib is actually where it should be, but its filename contains some characters with different case than what the app is looking for. If you put it on a case-insensitive filesystem, where it probably was to begin with, it should be OK. The installer would actually prevent you from running into this problem, because it will refuse to install on a case-sensitive volume, but moving the app from one volume to another can cause this.

If you do a normal upgrade from Sierra or earlier, your HFS+ volume will be silently converted to APFS, and there will be no change in case sensitivity. Generally you will not cause a change in case sensitivity in your filesystem by accident. However, if you, like me, are also upgrading/swapping your drive at the time of OS upgrade, you may decide that starting fresh with a case-sensitive filesystem sounds like a good idea because that is standard in the Linux world and perhaps you may want to do things like building Android or another Linux kernel or whatever. This is probably not a great idea for general Mac purposes, since case-sensitive HFS+ is a relatively uncommon choice, so older apps like this generally did not plan around it.

Hi, as you have already mentioned, CS6 is now obsolete for the operating system. However, have you tried to reset preferences?

Thanks for that suggestion. Yes, I did try that, as it's suggested in the other thread also, and no luck. But I did find the problem, which I'll describe below.
