Question

Moving a Layer In Photoshop By Inputting Inches

Hi world,

Please help me, I am working on a frame by frame animation. There was a window where I was able to move one layer by inserting inches in X or Y. This way I had exact control over the spacing that the layer would move from one frame to the next.

I know when you press Command + T for transform and you do it again, these values can be edited at the top, but these values are in pixels. The window I encountered was not like this. I did not see the Transform box around the layer. Does anyone know what I speak of? It is a separate window like layers, adjustments, etc.

Thank you!

If the values in the options bar are in pixels, you don't have to settle for that. You can type letters after the number to set the unit of measure, so for example if the X value says "800 px", you can type in "3 in" and it will move it to 3 inches. Also, if you right-click the value, you'll see a pop-up menu that lets you change the unit of measure to inches.

I'm not sure which window you're thinking of in Photoshop, but there's a Move dialog box in Adobe Illustrator that does exactly what you're talking about. Were you maybe thinking of that Illustrator feature?

Hi Conrad,

I am 100% certain I was in Photoshop when I saw this window. I really wish I remembered what it was called.

Why is it that when I click on a frame and input the inches, the frame after and before it also change? Please help!

TWEEN

You can have Photoshop generate frames TWEEN frames I just create two layers one Masked with an unlinked layer mask. I moved the contents of the top mask layer off canvas left and high. I then create a frame animation added a frame an moved the content of the top masked layer off canvas low on the right for that added frame Then I use TWEEN to have Photoshop generated the frames between the two frames I created. Tween does not seem to handle rotation correctly

For ratation I needed to generate the frames layer with a and action or script. This one has three frames.

I am not talking about Tween, but thank you for your explanation.
