Question

My Layer Mask icon is greyed out

Hi,

Probably an easy fix, as I am a newbie, but I can't for the life of me click the layer mask icon to convert a selected area into a mask.

As you can see here, it has a dark grey highlight around it that i cannot deselect, and since this has been highlighted, clicking the icon does nothing - I cannot create a new mask.

Hope someone can please help!

HEllo, you should update to Ps 21.1.2, as this issue has been fixed. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html#photoshop-desktop-fixed-issues

Which version of Photoshop do you have?  It's under Help > About Photoshop.

Also which operating system & version # are you using?

Not sure exactly what the layers panel is, do these screenshots help?

Show us your layers panel.

It looks like you might already have a mask selected which is why the icon is selected.
