Question

My Photoshop created PDF is HUUUUGE!

Hello,

I created a file in photoshop that is WAY too large when saved as a PDF. I merged my layers but cannot think of a way to reduce the file size any smaller without losing image quality.

Even when I open an existing PDF in Photoshop, when I save the work as a Photoshop PDF the file size increases big time.

Any ideas?

THANKS, Billy

What is the size of the image , in pixels (in Photoshop check with Image >Image Size) ?

What is "Huge" for the PDF size?

Sothe PDF I got from a friend is only 684 KB @ 44.4"x77.6"

When I save it grows to 48.2 MB!

If I save it using the smallest size preset it only grows to 2.6 MB,

a noticable difference but I don't understand why is gets larger than the original file.

This is sometimes due to metadata bloat (but not always):

In older versions of Photoshop, File > File Info > Raw would show this:

While in later versions all one "helpfully" sees is this:

If this is not the case, then you could look at other software and methods of combining separate images into a single PDF.

When you go into the Preset dialog, try "Smallest size" and see how that works.

There are many settings for the pdf. What is the end purpose of the pdf? Print? if so by commercial or home printer? Viewing on a computer only? There are so many variables that we need to know before actually being able to suggest how to best make the pdf smaller.
