Question

My tale of woe ... and "Could not place the document because the current document has an input-only color profile." error!

I journeyed for hours to get to a cabin in the woods. My wife and children were asleep when i arrived, so i decided to use the time to start a personal photoshop project. I'm still a PS beginner, but I use Premiere a bit and am Adobe-familiar to some degree.

So, i created a 22" x 22" canvas to make a collage. I drag one photo onto it no problem. The next i drag on and BAM! I get this error:

So, then i google this error and get this adobe forum posting:

Input-only color profile. What in the heck is that?

So, i praised Google and did what it told me to do, but i continue to get the error.

To be specific, I did the following with one of these problematic photos:

1-double-clicked it to open in the workspace.

2-went to Edit->Convert to Profile

3-selected :

which is what the forum post said to use....

4-I then save the photo with CMD-S.

5-I dragged it back into the canvas and got the SAME error.

What am i missing here please? THANK YOU

I, too, am a victim of the "input-only color profile" error.

Adobe this is a form of domestic violence, I am in my home and your software has hurt me.

It sounds as if you are opening not placing. Go to the File menu. Read carefully down the whole menu. There should be several "Place" items.

Place from the File menu. Almost always preferred over drag and drop or copy/paste.

So, I can open these photos when I do it individually. However, i'm trying to create a 22 inch x 22 inch canvas collage of many pictures. When i open a picture using File->Open it opens it in its own window, which is not what I want. I want to drag multiple onto the canvas.

I apologize if I'm not super effective yet at communicating my needs. I don't know all the lingo yet!

Ok, it just dawned on me.... when i was originally dragging, i had opened up a first picture, then tried to drag others, and was getting the error. Any combo of changing profiles did not work in this scenario.

However, when i just start with File->New and then extend the canvas and start dragging it appears that all photos are working fine?

That's a strange subtle difference. My best guess is that adding the first pic made PS assume something about profiles that it wouldn't let go of later on? weird.

I don't like "save the photo with Cmd+S". I would always do Save As, and make sure of the file format. It may not be the problem. Be very sure you are reopening the changed file, not the original.

I think we suggested you Place rather than drag. Does it change anything.

sorry, i'm super new to Photoshop in many ways. What do you mean by "place"?

So, i tried this:

1-save as Adobe RGB

2-closing the app and reopening.

neither worked. I'm still getting the same error message. I did notice, though, that when I click on one of these photos, then drag another onto it I do NOT get the error.

the workspace on the left will NOT let me drag any of these photos onto it. The one on the right will. Does it have anything to do with layers? thanks!

You may have to close your file, exit and reopen Photoshop then try again.

Idea: try converting to Adobe RGB instead.

What is the format of the file giving the error?

After converting the profile in Photoshop, try select all, then copy and paste into your other PS image. Does that give any error?
