Question

My text adjustments disappear when I merge layers. Why is this happening?

Hi, I'm using Photoshop CS6.  I have been making some posters, and trying to make the text more interesting usng Blending Options.  I've been adding a Bevel & Emboss plus an Outer Glow.  The psd looks great on my screen, but as soon as I convert it to a jpg so I can print it all of the text modifications vanish.

Any idea what is happenng here?  And how I might fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

This can happen when layer order, Smart Objects and grouped layers confuse Photoshop.  My work around is to add a Copy Merged layer to the top of the stack.  Select top most layer (which has to be turned on for this work, and Shift Ctrl Alt E

Vaguely makes me think of something, but I can't remember it...

In the meantime, why not print as is?  You don't have to flatten anything, AFAIK?

Other options are to save a file for printing, or to rasterize the layer styles (maybe that option is not in CS6 yet, not sure).

I'm not able to print from a psd, and once I try to convert to a jpg or tiff I lose the effects

Could you please post screenshots taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible? (Before and after flattening)

I'm not sure what change I made, but I somehow now have the edits I made in Blending Options showing after I convert the psd to a jpg.  Odds are I was doing something wrong to begin with and just didn't notice when I screwed up, and when I went back later I skipped the bad step and things worked as they should.  Now I'll need to figure out what I did wrong so I can avoid that in the future!

Thanks to all of you who offered to help, I really appreciate it!
