Mysterious square on Mac computer

A friend of mine has a mac computer, when she uses brush in Photoshop she gets a mysterious square and she can not paint. I can not help her because I have a Windows computer. Is there anyone here who has a solution?

It would help if you provided more detailed information, Photoshop and OS versions and System Specs, a screenshot with all the pertinent panels opened.

Has she tried resetting the Brush Tool

If that doesn't help try resetting Photoshop preferences
