Native canvas PS 25.5.

Hey all,

I had an issue with really slow savings and openings TIFF files in PS 25.5. - no compression, nothing fancy, just one image with e.g. 4 layers took something about a minute to save or load. It is not a PC issue I believe, since I have solid build for PS - i9-13900K + 64 GB DDR5 RAM. I disabled native canvas option in menu as I read some forums and now it's back to normal - really fast. Q here is, what native canvsas do? I simply don't understand why I should disable it... Thanks!

That's really odd. "Deactivate Native Canvas" relates to Photoshop's graphics code, and I can't understand why that should have any relevance to save times.

What it does is to revert Photoshop GPU handling to the older and deprecated OpenGL framework, instead of the current OS-native DirectX framework. Sometimes that can get around GPU/driver-related bugs temporarily.

Are you sure you haven't touched any compression settings? That will have a dramatic impact on save times.

You are right, my dumb ass was opening JPGs instead of TIFFs - anyway, I can't understand why simple 1GB file should be loading 30-60 seconds. This is how I save the files.
