Need help to identify tool

Hello! Please help me to understand how to create such effect ! I don't mean the texture, but I need to understand how to create the abrasive wear,  how to erase an image in some places by the very special way.

    Make the image a Layer of its own and apply a Layer Mask, then paint on the Layer Mask – black to hide, white to show.

    And if you can’t find a fitting brush try doing a search for »photoshop distressed brush«.
