New Feather Selection Tool... Or do they have this?

I was just pondering on selection and feathering... usually you choose a feathering for the entirety of the selection.

I was wondering; what if you could select and then use a seperate tool to feather certain edges of the selection?

That would be nice. I know people have ways around this but this, 'Feather (Selection) Tool' would be nice.
Just choose the feathering ratio while the tool is chosen and use the tool on your selection.

Maybe even be able to choose direction the feather goes and do a box/circle select with same tool while holding down a key and dragging? Like a circle with 8 quadrants or an arrow that points to the side you select within the circle on the toolbar.

"what if you could select and then use a seperate tool to feather certain edges of the selection?"

Well, actually you can do that, and IMO with greater flexibility. Select, and enter Quick Mask (Q). Then use the Blur tool, or whichever other painting tool. Feather "direction" is actually not an applicable concept; that would be select > expand/contract.

I'm not saying it's not a good and valid feature request, but I've been doing this in Quick Mask for fifteen years and never felt the need for anything else or better. It does everything I need.

I agree with Gad about using Quick Mask. You can use it to "change the direction" with a Levels or Curves adjustment (via the menu, not an adjustment layer) to the mask channel, by dragging the black or white point towards the center.

Good idea. I'd also like to have the option to alias or anti-alias with ALL selection tools.
