New layer not created using pen trace tool

So when I use the trace tool, it doesn't creat a new layer. When I create a new layer over top of the object that I am tracing it doesn't show that the trace is connected to the layer. Is their a fix for this?

When I draw a path it is not connected to the new layer that I have created. Normally I add the picture then a new layer over that so that I can create a path, but if you notice the new layer doesn't show the path, even though the path tab is created

Can you post some screenshots or a video of what you're seeing?

One thing to try: Go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?
