New Photoshop is making copies of items I work with and it's annoying!

I just upgraded to the latest greatest Photoshop. Now when I go to resize a graphic or move a text block, it creates a copy of the graphic or text box. It is becoming really annoying. The only way to get rid od the copy is to turn a layer on and off. How do I get this to stop?
