New Update Interrupts Workflow

When anything is in a group and I try to select a layer on my document, it always selects the group it belongs to now instead of the layer. I can't just click on the layer I want to select without choosing the entire group. It has never been like this and I hope that I can find a preference to reverse this.  Anybody else having the same issue?

Any help would be appreciated.
