Nikon D850 Raw Files

Does anyone know if Photoshop CC will allow me to directly upload my Nikon D850 Raw files from my computer.

I currently have a 2013 version of Photoshop Elements which will handle the raw files using a DNG Converter.  However it is very slow and will not handle some of the files as they are too large.  It is also very slow.

Also, I am not sure if Lightroom CC would be better for reading the Nikon D850 raw files then Photshop CC?

Native support for the D850 was added in Camera Raw (ACR) version 9.12.1. Your Elements version is probably too old to run this.

ACR is by now up to version 11.1 with the current Photoshop CC, so your camera has been supported for a long time. Ditto for Lightroom.

However it is very slow and will not handle some of the files as they are too large.

The application will do fine, that's not the problem. Your hardware might not be quite up to it, however. Those files are big, and will put a lot of strain on your computer. You need a reasonably current, high-spec desktop system to work comfortably with that.

    Hi,

Will Adobe Photoshop Elements 2019 also handle the Nikon D850 raw files directly.

Thanks very much for the advice. My computer operating system is ok.  I have Windows 10.  Photoshop elements is the problem. Now that I know the 2019 Photoshop CC app will read the D850 Raw files I will go ahead and purchase this product.  Thanks again.

Windows 10 is no guarantee for anything. Nor is Photoshop in itself. That's not the bottleneck.

What you need is a computer with a powerful CPU, fast hard drives with good capacity and enough free space (a lot!) enough RAM (at least 16GB, preferably more), and a fairly current video card with an updated and bug-free driver. That last point is a common problem, unfortunately outside Adobe's control.

A machine that doesn't meet these requirements will struggle with the large files from a D850 - whatever software you're using.

I don't know anything about Elements, I have never used it. There is a separate Elements forum where they can help you with specific questions.
