no appropriate preview in "distortion - wave" of image

as you can see i have selected the bottom part of the image to edit it ... but everytime i choose the option ,,distortion - wave" the preview doesnt match the part i've selected. it is either black, or "transparent" or full of pixels.... the problem DOES NOT appear when i pick the whole image, only when its a smaller part.... why ????

Hi

Convert the layer to a Smart Object before making the selection and it should work or you could copy the selection to it's own layer
