No response from Photoshop CS6

Hello, I use Photoshop CS 6.  I wanted to make a photo college and hence needed to make grid on a blank document.  There was no response when I tried VIEW > SHOW > GRID.    I tried some other ways also by searching the web; but they were all in vein.  Can anyone guide me to get this rectified?

    Hi

    Try resetting your Photoshop prefereneces

    To restore preferences quickly using a keyboard shortcut: Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop
