Question

Not enough memory (RAM)

I have a new laptop and installed Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (older version).  Recently, when I try to open Photoshop, I get an error message:  "Could not initialize Photoshop because there is not enough memory (RAM).  Then it closes.  How do I fix this?

If you don't recall changing that setting, then that wouldn't be the cause of the issue.

Best thing to start with is a reset of the ps7 preferences by:

holding down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys, right clicking on the ps7 shortcut and clicking Open

keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings File and click Yes

Which version of windows do you have?

What is the size of the drive and how much free space is left?

In photoshop 7 under Edit>Preferences>Image & Memory Cache, did you set the ram usage to 100% before ps 7 started generating that error?

When I double click Photoshop on the desktop, it looks like it’s going to open, but then the message pops up. Can I right click on the Desktop Icon and make those settings?

Run it on the old laptop where it used to work, or get up to date on the new laptop.

That's photoshop 7 or photoshop elements 7?
