The blinking amber light (instead of the usual green) while the connection is working well is a signal that a new update to the AirPort Router is available.

To download and install the update:

Choose the Finder and in the very top Menu Bar choose Go.

From the list choose Utilities and then AirPort Utilities

Click on the picture of the Router to open its information screen

Alongside version will be the option to Update.

Download time is not long but the short term disconnect for installation and return of the green light ons the Router feels like forever. It is actually a minute or two.

And you're good to go.

Good luck.

The reason the blinking amber light is going to be a surprise to so many users is that despite the fact that Apple discontinued the Apple Airport/Time Capsule line of routers some time ago, they just released a firmware update for the last version with security fixes.

While no one expected this, it's nice to know that they're still putting out updates to keep these old products secure, since I still use them.

I thought the airport router was discontinued a while back and had not been updated in a while. I guess they did decide on a new update.
