Once out of beta, will generative fill produce content to match the dimensions of the selection?

Hi folks,

As generative fill produces graphics at a maximum size of 1024x1024px (and stretching the result to fill the dimensions of the selection if the selection is bigger) will this limitation be lifted once the functionality is out of beta?

Cheers,
RS

It looks like Adobe hasn’t publicly announced yet how that’s going to work, so we don’t know.

They might be working out what pixel dimensions can be supported on current hardware. For example, computing requirements might make it impractical if someone asks for a full resolution extension of an image from a 60 megapixel Sony camera. We’ll just have to wait and see.

It is often tempting to ask what Adobe is going to do about this or that … but someone has put it roughly like this in the past:

»Those who know don’t say and those who say don’t know.«

Consider the might of the NDA!

That's very true. It's the same as when people are asking when Apple are going to update parts of its hardware lineup. Nobody knows except Apple, and in this case, it's Adobe. I should've known better 😛

Luckily, it isn’t as black and white as it used to be. The Photoshop public beta is a relatively recent thing. It used to be that we were always totally in the dark until the final release came out. Now we actually get to try some features before they’re final, and comment in the public beta forum about things that aren’t right yet. So there is a chance that Adobe might release newer public betas with improvements and fewer restrictions.

Also, you mentioned “stretching the result to fill the dimensions of the selection if the selection is bigger.” For a better result under the restriction, there’s a YouTube video about some temporary workarounds involving filling 1024 px sections one by one so that the entire fill is at full resolution. At the end he points out this can be made into an action.

Conrad, that makes perfect sense. Thanks for your response 🙂
