Onion skin for select and mask

When I use "select and mask" and then choose the "onion skin" option it doesn't work, i.e. I don't see my selection on an onion skin. What am I doing wrong. I also tried some of the other options and they didn't work either.

Two most common reasons:

1.) You don't have a selection

2.) The transparency slider for Onion Skin is too light (too close to 0%)

Cancel, select the object (marching ants visible) then go back to Select & Mask.

If that still isn't working, please share a screen shot.

A couple of other things to check , in addition to those mentioned by Barb

1. Make sure "Show original" is not checked at the top right of the select and mask workspace

2. Make sure if you are working on a copy layer that the original layer is not directly below with visibility enabled. In other words onion skin transparency is working but the identical layer below is showing through
