Adobe.com search turned up this trustworthy(?) answer about 16-year-old CS5 --

    “Short answer

    • No — Photoshop CS5 is no longer supported by Adobe and is not supported on recent operating systems; it may run on some older OS versions but Adobe no longer provides support or fixes (Photoshop CS5 not supported on Sierra).”

Do you have any other Photoshop versions installed?

Can you open CS5 directly (i.e. not by clicking on a jpeg file) then use File > Open? If so, the issue is Windows file associations, not Photoshop itself.

Yes.  I can use Adobe products on my W10/11 system...just a pain in the butt to  not be able to click on photo files and not have them open with PS.  Funny thing...a few other Adobe products are listed for opening other types of files, just not Photoshop.

In that case you need to update the file associations in Windows so that your version Photoshop is used when you click on a jpeg.

In Windows 11 go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Choose defaults by file type then choose jpeg. Set the default to your version of Photoshop.

    @ocatrina

More detailed infos would be helpful. Perhaps a solution is possible.

What happened exactly if you try a double click on a .jpg file?

What happened if you tried to open a jpg in Photoshop directly?

Can you even start and work with Photoshop?

Do you get any error messages?

I double click photo file and file can’t be opened because photoshop.exe is listed as associated app.  Photoshop.exe was found in the app folder on C:.I can open files directly after opening Photoshop. Adobe photoshop CS5 64 bit works fine on W10/11.

Does this work in the past? If yes, what has been changed on your system?

    To ideas:

    1. Try to run Photoshop in a compatibility mode (like Windows 7)

    2. Check if the assignment to all extension of JPEG files is correct. Try to reassign Photoshop to all appropriate extensions.

Do you get an error message on double click?

I was afraid of that.  Paid BIG money for the software just to have the rug ripped out from under it!

You can’t reasonably expect 16 year old software to be backwards compatible – try buying an old computer to see if it will run on that.
