Opening line art SVG in photoshop results in black solid block

My original line art opened in photoshop as PNG:

However when I open the SVG version in photoshop it ends up like this:

Could anyone explain why this is?

Even the »black« is apparently a pixel image, which in turn is masked with another pixel image.

    I created the design in Canva - I then downloaded a PNG version and an SVG version. This has worked every time before but not for this design for some reason.

    I tried opening the svg in Illustrator and apparently the lines are embedded as pixel-images and are not actually proper vector-content.
