Opening pictures in Photoshop from Bridge

Before the latest updates I used to click on a picture in Bridge and it would open in Photoshop. Now it gets as far as opening it in camera raw but when I click there to open image it sits there using about 40% of my cpu and nothing happens. I have just come back after several hours and it was still using about 40% but nothing had opened. What can I do?

This is a widows 10 computer so perhaps I should just buy a mac?
