Question

Opening raw files into Photoshop CC by right clicking (in Bridge)...used to work on CS6...

Hello,

I'm trialling CC at the moment.

In CS6 I used to:

1) Select an image in Bridge and then open it in Camera Raw directly from Bridge via the right click 'Open in Camera Raw' option.

2) Make basic edits in Camera Raw and then click 'Done'.

3) Right click the image in Bridge again and select 'open in Adobe Photoshop CS6 (default)' for final edits.

In the CC trial when I try step 3 it doesn't offer an 'open in PS CC' option. It just still offers the option to 'open in Adobe Photoshop CS6 (default)'. CS6 opens it but can't open the file (presumably because it's from a recent camera and PS CS6 is channeling an old version of ARC)?

Is there any way to emulate what I used to do in CS6 please?

I appreciate that it may not be the most elegant route but it's what I'm used to...

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers

JK.

The "Open in Camera Raw" option is visible in the Bridge CC 2019 context menu, but only for png, jpeg, tiff and raw files, not for other types like psd or png.

Alternatively Cmd or Ctrl r can open those qualified types in ACR.

You do need to go to Bridge Preferences > File Type Associations and choose Photoshop CC for the kind of file you want to open in CC and the new ACR.

Bridge CC 2019 is a separate download, you must also install it.

    Hello,

Thank you to all who replied.

Yes, I was using Bridge CC 2019 and it was indeed checked in the start up scripts section.

Your answers prompted me to simply open the raw file directly from the 'File > Open' menu in Photoshop CC. This opened it in ACR and allowed me to make basic changes. Then, still in ACR I clicked 'Open Image' and it opened straight into Photoshop, which is what I was trying to do. Simple thing but it was really foxing me as it didn't work as it did in CS6 which I've used for so long. Anyway, fixed now so thank you kindly for your help folks.

    Cheers

ACR can be hosted both by Photoshop and Bridge, independently from each other.

Right-clicking and "Open in Camera Raw" (ctrl+R) opens ACR hosted by Bridge.

Double-clicking in Bridge - or your system file browser - opens ACR hosted by Photoshop.

All of this relies on the file associations being correctly set in the OS. I suspect that's the issue here. This could happen if you uninstalled CS6 after you installed CC (the safe way to do it is uninstall both, then install the one you want. Last in, first out).

In CC you can  from Bridge open in Camera Raw

Then after processing to an image you can open it in Photoshop.  Since there are no pixels "yet" ACR must make those first before PS CC can open it.  After That the Open dialogue will open in the default application in my case it's PS CC 2019 but you can change that if that's not what you expected.

Are you using Bridge CC? Try going to Edit (Adobe Bridge on Mac) > Preferences > Startup Scripts. Ensure that the script for Photoshop CC is checked. (Make sure to close Bridge and restart.)
