Question

Optimize existing logo files

I recently started a new job and am working on optimizing our logo. However, all of the files are jpg or png. I am wanting to create vectors for the logo so that we have size flexibility but I'm having a hard time getting the existing files where they need to be to even create a new logo file in Illustrator. Any tips on how to optimize those current png and jpg files?

In Adobe Illustrator you can use the File/Place method to bring in the jpg/png logo.

While in the Place dialog window, choose the "Template" option before you click open.

This will place your original files on their own layer - non-printing and ghosted back so you can draw over them on a newly created layer cleanly.

It's hard to give advice on this without seeing the logos in question, but in nearly every case, the best way would be to start from scratch and recreate the logos as vector in Illustrator

Hi

For vector logos, the best application is Adobe Illustrator. You can try Image Trace or you can recreate them or you might need a combination of the two. Shall I move this to the Illustrator forum?
