Question

Order of New Objects in they Layer Panel

Currently, when I create a new object in the Layer's panel, be it layer, folder, group, etc..., it creates that object above the existing one instead of below it.

Ex. Original state:
Existing Layer 1

Ex. Updated state with new objects created:
Layer 3
Layer 2
Existing Layer 1

What I would like is the opposite:
Existing Layer 1

Layer 2
Layer 3

Is there a setting I could change?

Hold down Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Win) as you click New to create a new layer underneath the current layer.

Blimey Jane - I've been using Photoshop for how many years and I didn't know that !  Probably because I use Shift+Ctrl+N to create new layers. It just shows - we still learn something every day !

That Photoshop for you.   Now your task is to remember  the shortcut I can not remember the ones I have lost.  If you add +Alt Photoshop will name that new layer for yor bypass the new layer dialog..

Hi

No you can't change that- it would probably cause big problems for new users as their new layer would be hidden behind the previous layer.

You can of course select the layers and use Layer > Arrange > Reverse
