Question

PDF file size is too BIG! 1.4GB

I created a banner for a client 108in x144in, 150dpi (This is how the print guy asked it to be sent). I flattened the image. Unchecked "preserve photoshop editing capabilties". I selected "Do not downsample" on the Compression tab because i dont want to lose print quality. How can I reduce the size without losing quality?

I suggest you phone two or three specialist banner inkjet ink companies and get their advice on what they feel is the best format and resolution for this poster.

That's 16200 x 21600 pixels!

That's a huge file by any standard, and I can't think of many situations where that would be justified.

Just for context consider a Phase One IQ4, the highest resolution medium format digital back commercially available today, at the neat price of about $55 000. Yes, that's fifty-five. It delivers about 14000 x 10000 pixels, or less than a quarter of your file.

In the more realistic range, a Sony a7r iv delivers 9504 x 6336 pixels. That's enough pixels for any practical purpose.

I'd go another round with those requirements.

Cleary this print guy who my client is using doesnt know whats he's doing. And I'm new to photoshop so I barely know what I'm doing LOL! When I tried to send it in smaller dimensions he sent it back saying it wasn't 9 x 12. Idk. Thanks anyway!

" When I tried to send it in smaller dimensions he sent it back saying it wasn't 9 x 12. " That's probably how you reduced the dimensions. How did you do it, and what does image size show for the file?

Try lowering the resolution to 100PPI and exporting as a PDF/X-4.

Thank you! That reduced it to 16.4MB. Do you think the quality will be good once the client has it printed? This is a huge banner going inside a church.
